Apple sails into Lin’s Perfect Storm

Apple has struck a multi-year overall deal with producer and director Justin Lin and his Perfect Storm Entertainment label.

Lin, who most recently had a deal with Sony Pictures Television, will develop, produce and direct TV shows aimed at a global audience for Apple.

The producer has worked on the Fast & Furious movie franchise, while his TV shows include CBS dramas SWAT and Scorpion, as well as Warrior for Cinemax.

As part of the Apple agreement, Andrew Schneider is joining to run Perfect Storm Entertainment TV, having previously been at Fox 21 TV Studios and most recently head of TV for US producer Free Association.

Apple has been ramping up plans for its video offering over the past year, ordering shows including a new comedy from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia pair Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney.

Yesterday it agreed a deal with DHX Media that will see new animated content based on the iconic Peanuts brand made available on the tech giant’s forthcoming streaming platform. Details of the latter remain largely under wraps.
