Apple orders first UK scripted series

Apple has ordered its first drama out of the UK – a spy series starring Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman.

Gary Oldman

Slow Horses is adapted from Mick Herron’s British espionage books. It will see Oldman play a brilliant but irascible leader of the spies who end up in a dumping ground department of MI5 due to their career-ending mistakes.

Oldman has starred in feature films such as The Dark Knight trilogy, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Darkest Hour, for which his performance as Winston Churchill won him the Academy Award for best actor in 2017.

Slow Horses will be written by Will Smith (Veep, The Thick Of It). Graham Yost will executive produce along with Smith. Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Gail Mutrux and Douglas Urbanski also serve as executive producers.

The series is commissioned for Apple out of the UK by Apple’s heads of worldwide video, Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, and creative director for Europe worldwide video, Jay Hunt. See-Saw Films will be the production company.
