Anton will be a co-investor in the distribution rights for Newen’s own productions and its third-party programmes across all genres as part of a strategic agreement between the two companies.

Anton has previously co-financed projects with StudioCanal and BBC Studios, with which it has a partnership to fund dramas.

Newen MD Romain Bessi said Anton’s support would “help speed up our growth and expand our European projects by boosting their export potential.”

Newen has been pursuing a strategy to grow as a European drama player following its buyout by French commercial broadcaster TF1 in 2015.

Sébastien Raybaud, CEO and founder of Anton, added: “Newen has a proven track record in creating original, world-class content for the global market. We are excited to be partnering with the group at this key moment in its expansion.”

Anton has co-financed features such as the Paddington franchise, while its recent TV projects include McMafia, Les Misérables, Gentleman Jack, North Water and His Dark Materials.

It also has a co-financing/coproduction partnership with Federation Entertainment, spanning a slate of 15 productions.
