HBO alum Levine lands Anonymous role

Anonymous Content, the US firm behind the forthcoming adaptation of classic novel Catch-22, has hired HBO’s former drama chief to oversee its television arm.

David Levine

David Levine has joined Anonymous as president of television, a role that will see him develop, produce and help steer the outfit’s slate of TV projects.

The move comes a few weeks after Levine stepped down from as exec VP and co-head of drama at premium cabler HBO to return to producing.

At Anonymous, Levine will join work on a range of high-profile dramas including the Hulu/Channel 4 reworking of Joseph Heller’s war novel Catch-22, exec produced by and starring George Clooney, and Apple crime series Defending Jacob, starring Chris Evans (Avengers: Infinity War).

Levine joined HBO in 2009 as a consultant, rising through the ranks before being made exec VP and co-head of drama alongside Francesca Orsi in 2016. During his time at the cablenet, he oversaw hit series including True Detective, Westworld, Game of Thrones and True Blood.

His appointment comes as Anonymous continues to expand up its TV operations. Last month, the firm hired Pulse Films and Vice execs Fred Grinstein and Dema Paxton Fofang to joins its unscripted division as head of non-fiction and director of development respectively.
