Annecy 2020 cancelled

The Annecy event was set to celebrate its 60th anniversary this year.

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival & Market has become the latest television industry event to be cancelled amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The annual event, which had been scheduled to take place between June 15 to 20, was set to celebrate its 60th anniversary this year.

Elements of the event will now move online, with more details to be announced on April 15, including the film festival’s official selection.

“The rationale and the international situation compel us to act with lucidity and responsibility. To show our respect and our deep gratitude to the healthcare providers, as well as all those who choose solidarity and the public interest,” said the organisers.

“We took the decision not to move the festival to a later date. The necessary facilities and the regular events’ calendar, as well as scheduled postponements of other events, do not provide us with a reasonable option,” they added.

The event will take place next year from June 14 to 19. It is the latest in a string of industry events to be canned as the world battles with the coronavirus pandemic.

MipTV in Cannes, Series Mania in Lille, the Banff World Media Festival, the LA Screenings and the Children’s Media Conference in Sheffield are among those to have already been cancelled in 2020. Today, the Edinburgh TV Festival and Realscreen West were also cancelled and Natpe Budapest was shifted to August.
