American Gods to rule again on Starz

American Gods is based on Neil Gaiman’s 2001 novel

US cablenet Starz has ordered a second season of FremantleMedia North America (FMNA)’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s urban fantasy novel American Gods.

The show, based on the 2001 book, premiered at the end of April and has become one of the channel’s most popular originals to date. The second run will debut in 2018.

FMNA acquired rights to adapt the novel in 2014 and Starz gave the company a ‘script to series’ development deal soon afterwards.

Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Heroes) and Michael Green (The River Heroes) write and showrun the series. Gaiman also exec produces the show, with FMNA producing.

Starz retains all network pay TV and SVoD rights to the project, while FremantleMedia distributes worldwide.
