AMC’s Terror goes Global

US cablenet AMC’s forthcoming anthology series The Terror has been acquired for the broadcaster’s international service.

The show, which is based on a 2007 novel from best-selling author Dan Simmons, will air exclusively around the world on AMC Global in 2017 within minutes of its US broadcast.

It is set in 1847, when a Royal Naval expedition crew searching for the Northwest Passage is attacked by a mysterious predator that stalks the ships and crew in a game of survival.

Scott Free, Emjag Productions and Entertainment 360 are producing the 10×60’ series in association with AMC Studios, which is distributing. The project is written by David Kajganich, who will also be co-showrunner with Soo Hugh, while Ridley Scott exec produces.

Harold Gronenthal, exec VP of programming and operations at AMC and Sundance Channel Global, said the show’s “distinctive combination of science fiction and historical non-fiction” would complement its other shows including Fear the Walking Dead, Humans and Into the Badlands.
