AMC, Channel 4 end Humans race

Channel 4/AMC sci-fi drama Humans is based on a Swedish series

Sci-fi drama coproduction Humans has been cancelled after three seasons on Channel 4 in the UK and AMC in the US.

Endemol Shine-owned prodco Kudos was behind the show, which was set in a parallel present day and explored what happens when the lines between humans and machines become blurred.

The series was written by Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley and is based on Swedish sci-fi drama Real Humans, created by Lars Lundstrom and produced by Matador Films for SVT.

Vincent and Brackley confirmed the news on Twitter, adding: “In this age of unprecedented choice and competition, we can have no complaints.

“We got to make the show we wanted to make, for 24 episodes. The Humans cast and crew were and are the best, and we wouldn’t have got a second season without their talent and dedication, let alone a third.”

Derek Wax, Emma Kingsman-Lloyd, Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley were among executive produce for Kudos in association with Wild Mercury Productions, Lars Lundstrom and Henrik Widman for Matador Films.

The drama’s second season on Channel 4 drew 3.4 million viewers, making it the biggest scripted launch on the channel since the second season of Homeland in 2012.
