Amazon, Warner Bros ink UK deal

Amazon has signed a new deal with Warner Bros for the UK and Germany, just days after the retail giant announced it was merging its LoveFilm and Prime Instant Video services in the territories.

The multi-year streaming agreement sees shows from Warner Bros International Television Distribution join the studio’s movies on Amazon Prime Instant Video when it officially launches this Wednesday.

Amazon Prime Instant Video has picked up the UK subscription rights to Arrow, The Following, Hostages, Revolution and The 100 – subsequent to their linear UK broadcast runs.

The first seasons of Arrow, The Following and Revolution will go live on Amazon Prime Instant Video this year with Hostages and The 100 in 2015, and subsequent seasons of each show following thereafter.

The deal comes as Amazon increases its investment in first-run rights and original programming as it ups the ante with Netflix and Hulu.

Other shows set to arrive soon on Prime Instant Video in the UK and Germany include original series Alpha House and Betas, as well as three new children’s programmes.

Amazon recently introduced 10 new pilots from creators such as Chris Carter (The X-Files), Eric Overmyer (The Wire, Treme), Michael Connelly (Harry Bosch), Roman Coppola (Moonrise Kingdom) and Jason Schwartzman (Saving Mr. Banks) in the US.
