Amazon UK lines up American Idol

American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan

Amazon has taken exclusive rights to the new season of American Idol in the UK for its Prime Video service.

The first two episodes of the talent show format will be made available to Prime subscribers this week, with new episodes added every Tuesday.

American Idol began airing again in the US this month after ABC rebooted the format with Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie as judges and Ryan Seacrest returning as host.

The show aired for 15 seasons on Fox in the US until 2016, with ABC picking up rights from FremantleMedia North America last year. Previous seasons of the show have aired in the UK with free-to-air broadcasters ITV and Channel 5.

The Idol format has been remade in 55 countries around the world and American Idol itself has aired in 150 territories.

American Idol is produced by FremantleMedia North America and 19 Entertainment, a division of Core Media Group. Executive producers include FremantleMedia North America’s Trish Kinane and Jennifer Mullin, along with co-executive producer Megan Wolflick.
