Amazon takes Fireman Sam, Bob the Builder

MIPJUNIOR: Global streamer Amazon Prime Video has acquired a raft of series, including Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam, from Canadian children’s content company DHX Media.

In total, Amazon has secured 13 DHX shows for its SVoD service, covering some 200 territories and 15 languages.

Other DHX brands included in the deal are Caillou, Johnny Test, Yo Gabba Gabba!, Inspector Gadget and In the Night Garden. They are all set to launch on Amazon this fall.

The deal is the latest in a number struck between the companies, which saw it take numerous shows for its Prime Video service in India at the beginning of the year.

“Leading global SVOD services are forecast to collectively spend approximately US$19bn on content through 2018,” said Dana Landry, CEO of DHX Media. “This far-reaching agreement announced today with Amazon Prime Video reinforces DHX Media’s position as a ‘go-to’ provider of kids’, multi-language content to this robust market.”

It marks a boost for DHX after the company recently initiated a strategic review to maximise value to shareholders, following a 30% drop in share value since the end of the September. The decline was blamed in part by DHX reporting poor quarterly results in the same month.
