Amazon looks for laughs in Oz

Amazon Studios has commissioned its second Australian show, a series of stand-up comedy specials.

Guesswork Television will film the specials at Melbourne’s Malthouse Theatre, featuring performances from 10 comedy acts: Lano & Woodley, Zoë Coombs Marr, Judith Lucy, Tommy Little, Anne Edmonds, Tom Walker, Celia Pacquola, Dilruk Jayasinha, Alice Fraser and Tom Gleeson.

“Amazon’s comedy series and stand-up specials have excited our customers around the world and we’re looking forward to welcoming this talented group of Australian comedians to the Prime Video family,” said Amazon Studios head of international originals James Farrell.

Guesswork previously produced Hannah Gadsby’s comedy special Nanette for Netflix.

Last month Amazon announced that Australian-born Hollywood actor Rebel Wilson would host and executive produce its first Australian original series, LOL: Last One Laughing, a six-part comedy/variety show produced by Endemol Shine Australia
