Amazon lines up original Bundy doc

Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer features rare family photos

MIPCOM: Global streamer Amazon is preparing to launch its own original documentary series about notorious US serial killer Ted Bundy.

Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer will be available to Prime Video subscribers in 2020, featuring exclusive interviews with Bundy’s girlfriend, Elizabeth Kendall, and her daughter.

The five-parter is being produced by Amazon Studios and Blue Ant-owned Saloon Media and aims to reframe Bundy’s crimes from the perspective of his long-term partner.

After nearly 40 years of silence, Kendall and her daughter Molly share their experiences with new, unsettling details about Bundy, the pull he had on women and an archive of never-before-seen family photos.

They are joined by female voices including survivors of Bundy’s attacks, some of whom are stepping forward for the first time.

Producer and director Trish Wood was a journalist for the CBC where she spent a decade reporting and producing investigative documentaries for the network’s award-winning current affairs programme The Fifth Estate.

The launch of the series will also coincide with the release of an updated and expanded edition of Kendall’s 1981 memoir The Phantom Prince: My Life with Ted Bundy.

The project follows the success of four-part Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes doc series from Joe Berlinger for Netflix. Berlinger was also involved in feature film Extremely Wicked, Shockily Evil & Vile starring Zac Efron.
