Amazon builds another High Castle

The Man in the High Castle

The Man in the High Castle is based on a Philip K Dick novel

Amazon has greenlit a third season of its drama The Man in the High Castle and has tapped a replacement for former showrunner Frank Spotnitz.

The US online giant, which launched its subscription VoD service around the world last month, has brought in Eric Overmyer to run the show.

Overmyer has writing and producing credits that include St Elsewhere, The Days & Nights of Molly Dodd, Homicide: Life on the Street, Law & Order, The Wire, New Amsterdam and Treme, which he created with David Simon.

He has previously worked with Amazon to adapt Michael Connelly’s crime novels into the streaming service’s original series Bosch.

Spotnitz stepped down from the showrunner role in May last year citing the decision to move the show’s production activity to the west coast of the US.

Based on Philip K Dick’s 1962 alternative history novel, The Man in the High Castle explores what would have happened if the Allied powers had lost the Second World War.

“As timely as ever, the exploration of characters at a dark point for humanity has provided incredible stories for two seasons,” said Joe Lewis, head of comedy and drama at Amazon Studios.

“Eric and his team are doing an incredible job crafting stories about the inner lives of those who struggle to do good in a world that is not. We couldn’t be more excited to bring season three to customers in 2017.”
