Amazon admires Marvelous Mrs Maisel

Amazon has made its first two-season order, commissioning a drama from Gilmore Girls’ Amy Sherman-Palladino and Family Guy’s Daniel Palladino.

Comedy drama The Marvelous Mrs Maisel will be available in 200 Amazon territories

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel has been written and directed by Sherman-Palladino and follows a New York City woman in the 1950s who realises she has a talent for stand-up comedy.

The show, from Amazon Studios, is executive produced by Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino, with Dhana Gilbert attached as producer.

The pilot for the show debuted on March 17 and the dramedy will be available in around 200 territories where the streamer operates.

Amazon is expanding its originals and appointed FremantleMedia International exec Georgia Brown as its director of original television for Europe in February.

Based in London, Brown will lead the e-commerce giant’s commissioning strategy across the region, reporting to head of international productions Morgan Wandell.
