Amazon adds adult animation

Fairfax will premiere in 2020

Amazon has placed a two-season order for an adult animated comedy from LA-based duo Serious Business and Titmouse, the company behind Netflix’s Big Mouth.

Fairfax follows the lives of four middle-school best friends as they navigate LA’s famous Fairfax Avenue and explore the streetwear trend. Each season will consist of eight half-hour episodes, with the first set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2021.

The series has been created by Matt Hausfater, Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley, with prodco Serious Business animation studio Titmouse, which is behind Netflix adult animation Big Mouth, developing the series alongside Amazon.

Hausfater, Buchsbaum and Riley all serve as executive producers on the show, alongside BoJack Horseman writer Peter A Knight and Serious Business’s Jon Zimelis and Jason U Nadler, while Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski and Ben Kalina will exec produce for Titmouse.

Fairfax’s characters were designed by visual artist Somehoodlum, who is also onboard as executive producer, while LA-based streetwear brand Pizzasilme is a consulting producer.

Hausfater, Buchsbaum and Riley, said: “It’s a modern look at the timeless struggle to be cooler than you are, to fit in while standing out, and what it feels like to wait in line for a pair of sneakers you’re never going to cop. We’re incredibly excited to be working with Serious Business, Somehoodlum, Pizzaslime, Titmouse and Amazon Studios. We couldn’t have asked for a better team.”

The Fairfax commission comes days after Titmouse signed a multi-year production agreement with Netflix.
