Alpha TV adapts Battle of the Couples

Battle of the Couples originated on French network TFX

Greek commercial network Alpha TV has commissioned the first international remake of French celebrity relationship show Battle of the Couples.

Originally produced by Satisfaction Group-owned French prodco Ah! Productions for TF1-owned free-to-air network TFX, Battle of the Couples sees famous couples competing in a series of weekly challenges to avoid elimination, with the final pair winning a cash jackpot and the title of ‘Couple of the Year.’

The series, a spin-off from fellow TFX show The Villa of Broken Hearts, has also been optioned by ITV Studios in the Netherlands, Vincent TV in Belgium, Baluba in Sweden and Warner Bros in Denmark.

Meanwhile, TF1 has ordered a second season of Satisfaction Group’s District Z. Aimed at 25- to 49-year-olds, the show follows celebrities as they undertake a series of physical and mental challenges.

Both shows are distributed by Sony Pictures Television (SPT), which sold its unscripted business in France to Satisfaction last year. SPT subsequently acquired a 20% stake in the newly enlarged Satisfaction Group, making it an 80/20 joint venture.

Sarah Edwards, senior VP of unscripted formats at SPT, said: “It is fantastic that these shows have struct such a chord with the international market and we can’t wait to see what Alpha TV do with Battle of the Couples.

“Coming hot on the heels of the blockbuster launch and recommission of District Z on TF1, it caps a great period for Satisfaction and we can’t wait to bring more of their shows to the world at our live Formats Showcase broadcast in February”
