Alpha grows originals slate

Legendary Digital Networks’ US streaming platform Alpha is building up its slate of original series with projects spanning pop culture, UFOs and post-apocalypse survivors.

Alpha, which launched in 2016, is working with companies including Nerdist and Geek & Sundry on the new programming.

It includes We’re Alive: Frontier, which is based on the podcast of the same name and follows a band of survivors as they journey into the infected American Midwest following the apocalypse.

Bizarre States: Declassified, meanwhile, sees Jessica Chobot and Andrew Bowser discuss subjects such as UFO encounters with celebrity and expert guests, while Key Question features Marisha Ray and Matt Key as they examine pop-culture figures.

In addition, Nerdist News: What the Friday will be hosted by Chobot and feature a review of the week’s pop-culture news. Alpha is also working with Nerdist on a previously announced, as-yet-untitled scripted series from a comedy group co-founded by Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation).

“This slate broadens our programming to include more pop culture-, humour- and genre-focused premium content that our audience has been asking for,” said Adam Rymer, president of Legendary Digital Networks.
