All4, digital chief to leave C4

The head of All4 and digital content at Channel 4 is stepping down after 12 years with the commercially funded UK pubcaster.

Richard Davidson-Houston

Richard Davidson-Houston will leave his role this summer, the channel confirmed today.

He launched VoD service All4 in 2015 and has since evolved it from a catch-up service to a mix of live TV, catch-up, box sets and archive. The service now also takes content from partners including Adult Swim, Vice and foreign drama specialist Walter Presents.

Having originally moved to C4 in 2007, he was appointed head of C4 online in 2010. He had previously been UK business manager for Microsoft’s Messenger, MSN and Hotmail services.

Davidson-Houston said: “It’s time to get stuck in to something new. Channel 4 has been part of my life for a long time. I’m happy that I’m leaving All4 in good shape and wish my colleagues all the best for the future.”

Ian Katz, director of programmes at Channel 4, said: “Richard has played the pivotal role in building All4 into a hugely successful on-demand service that punches well above its weight. He has been a key figure in shaping the channel’s response to the digital challenge and will be much missed.”
