All Creatures to return to Channel 5

All Creatures Great & Small is produced by Playground

ViacomCBS-owned UK terrestrial Channel 5 has renewed its original drama series All Creatures Great & Small for a second season.

Focusing on a trio of veterinary surgeons working in the Yorkshire Dales, the show is based on the books by James Herriot. C5 launched the series last year, marking a return to the screen for the property after a previous adaptation aired on the BBC through the 1980s.

Producer Playground (Howard’s End, Wolf Hall) has now been greenlit for a second 6×60’ run and a Christmas special, with US pubcaster PBS’s Masterpiece strand coproducing.

Playground parent All3Media handles distribution of All Creatures Great & Small. Its sales arm, All3Media International, has sold SVoD rights to both seasons to Huanxi Media in China.

The series will return to shoot on location in the Yorkshire Dales next year.
