The subscription VoD service said the move will allow it to “accelerate the development” outside Europe, where it is already available in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland, as well as French overseas territories and departments.

From today, Afrostream will also be available in Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal, Seychelles and Togo.

“Streaming services are on the rise in Africa and we are proud to be able to offer premium international content and premium local content to subscribers,” said Tonjé Bakang, CEO of Afrostream.

“Our catalogue has been carefully selected to include documentaries, kids’ programming, films, series and more, all designed to appeal to the varied tastes of household members of all ages.”

Afrostream, which launched in September last year, has secured more than 1,000 hours of programmes on all territories and has licensing deals in place with US studios Warner Bros, Sony, Viacom and Lionsgate.

The SVoD service also offers a live stream of the French-language version of US channel BET, following a deal with Viacom.
