Africa’s Kwesè claims BBCWW package

Million Dollar Intern

Fledgling pan-African broadcast network Kwesè TV has agreed its first programming deal with BBC Worldwide (BBCWW), acquiring shows including Million Dollar Intern and In Your Ear.

Kwesè TV, a subsidiary of Econet Media, has picked up a mixed-genre package featuring more than 50 hours of content, which will air across 17 African markets on Kwesè’s branded channels.

The networks, which air across sub-Saharan Africa, include factual edutainment-skewing Kwesè Know, entertainment net Kwesè Family, entrepreneurial-focused Kwesè Inc and Kwesè Kids.

Kwesè Inc will air Peter Jones – How We Made Our Millions, about the UK-based entrepreneur who stars on the BBC version of Dragons’ Den, as well as Million Dollar Intern, which sees business experts disguising themselves as ordinary interns to help struggling businesses.

Self-help show In Your Ear will air on Kwesé Know, as will The Life Swap Adventure, which sees people switching their lives with someone else around the world.

Joseph Hundah, Econet Media president and group CEO, said the deals “affirm our commitment to providing fresh, enriching and entertaining programming to our audiences.”

The deal follows the recent launch of BBCWW’s global preschool brand CBeebies on Kwesé TV.
