A&E Western Longmire rides back

US cablenet A&E has confirmed it is renewing its original Western drama Longmire for a 10-episode third season.

The show, produced by Warner Horizon Television, averaged 3.7 million viewers in total for its second season with the final episode delivering a season high of 4.4 million in August, according to the network.

Longmire follows the story of a Wyoming sheriff who returns to work following the death of his wife and must solve a series of crimes while preparing to run for re-election.

Executive producer John Coveny tweeted that the show’s third season was being greenlit in September and A&E’s parent A+E Networks has now confirmed the commission.

In September, A&E pulled the plug on Fox Television Studios-produced crime drama The Glades after four seasons.
