A+E visits Viceland ahead of Mip

Ian Daniel and Ellen Page in Gaycation

A+E Networks is expanding its partnership with Vice Media, picking up more than 300 hours of programming from the Viceland linear channel for international distribution.

The two companies previously partnered to launch Viceland as a cablenet in the US. The channel has since announced plans to roll out into more than 50 territories.

Now that partnership is expanding into distribution, with A+E International adding Viceland programming to its library, which already has more than 16,000 hours of content, ahead of the MipTV market in Cannes next week.

Viceland content being launched by A+E at the market includes Gaycation (8×60’), which sees actor Ellen Page and her friend Ian Daniel explore LGBTQ cultures around the world; Weediquette (8×60’, 26×30’) which looks at the transformation of marijuana culture; and Black Market (6×30’), which explores underground economies in the US and around the world.

It follows a similar deal between A+E and Vice-owned UK prodco Pulse Films to represent its content globally.

The deal was announced by Sean Cogan, president of international and digital at A+E Networks, and James Rosenstock, president of Viceland International and chief corporate development officer at Vice Media.

Edward Sabin, executive MD for international at A+E, spearheaded the agreement.
