A+E to shop Spanish language drama

A+E Networks International has picked up the global distribution rights to forthcoming Spanish-language historical period drama Hernán.

From Spain’s Onza Entertainment and Dopamine, a unit of Mexico’s Grupo Salinas, Hernán tells the story of 16th century conquistador and explorer Hernán Cortés, chronicling how he paved his way to the Americas and became the founding father of Mexico.

The eight-episode first season will premiere on Amazon Latin America on Thursday, followed by a run on History Latin America and TV Azteca in Mexico 24 hours later.

A+E Networks will distribute the series all around the world including Latin America, Mexico and Spain. The deal marks the first Spanish-language series to be distributed by A+E.

A second season of Hernán is in pre-production, with production scheduled to begin in January.
