A+E fills new Africa role

A+E Networks has appointed a former South African Broadcasting Corp (SABC) exec to the newly created role of general manager for Africa.

Yusuf Nabee takes up the post at the start of next month, reporting to Nicolas Eglau, chief operating officer for A+E Networks UK and general manager in the Nordics, Benelux and CEEMEA.

Nabee will be responsible for securing distribution of A+E Networks channels across Africa and driving commercial opportunities.

He will head the company’s office in Johannesburg and build a local team to drive the channels portfolio across the continent.

Nabee is currently CEO of ReelAfrican, a content aggregator that specialises in distributing African content around the world.

He previously held various roles at SABC, including planning for the launch of its DTT channels.

A+E currently operates three channel brands – History, Lifetime and Crime & Investigation – on the DStv platform in Africa and opened its Johannesburg office in 2015.

It has also adapted its Pawn Stars and Four Weddings formats locally.
