Acorn TV takes Virgin thriller

North American SVoD service Acorn TV has acquired a six-part psychological thriller commissioned by Virgin Media Television in Ireland.

Blood

Acorn Media Enterprises, which became part of AMC Networks last month, has come on board Blood as a coproducer. In return, the show will be made available as an Acorn TV Original Series in the US and Canada.

The series, which centres on a woman who returns home after her mother’s unexplained death, is produced by All3Media-owned UK prodco Company Pictures and Ireland’s Element Pictures. Liberty Global owns Virgin Media Television (fka TV3) in Ireland and holds a 50% stake in All3Media.

The latter’s distribution arm has also sold the show to Viacom-owned Channel 5 and Virgin Media in the UK, with the two taking linear and SVoD rights, respectively. The show is set to debut in Ireland this autumn.

Bill Malone, director of programming for Virgin Media Television, said: “This drama further underlines our commitment to invest in original scripted content in Ireland which appeals to international audiences.”
