Acorn navigates Mystery Road

A second season of Mystery Road is in the works

Acorn TV, the North American SVoD service dedicated to international television, has picked up Australian crime drama Mystery Road from distributor All3Media International.

The show, from Australia’s Bunya Productions, premiered on pubcaster ABC down under at the start of the month and will become available to Acorn subscribers in North America in August.

The six-part series stars Judy Davis (Feud, Husbands and Wives) and Aaron Pedersen (Jack Irish) as detectives investigating the disappearance of two young men in the outback.

Acorn Media Enterprises, Acorn’s UK-based development division, has also secured secondary rights to the show in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

Mystery Road was part funded by Screen Australia’s Indigenous department along with Screenwest, Lotterywest, the Western Australian Regional Film Fund and Create NSW. A second season is already in the works.

The pick-up follows RLJ Entertainment-owned Acorn’s recent expansion into Latin America.
