Acorn joins RTÉ in Finding Joy

Acorn Media Enterprises (AME) has again partnered with Irish pubcaster RTÉ on a forthcoming comedy created and written by its star, Amy Huberman (Striking Out).

Finding Joy stars Amy Huberman

Finding Joy is a six-part series being produced with Ireland’s Treasure Entertainment that follows a single woman who looks for happiness in all the wrong places after a painful break-up.

AME, the UK-based development division for the Acorn brand of parent company RLJ Entertainment, is joining the show as the show’s North American coproducer, with shooting set to start in Dublin this month.

Rob Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan of Treasure Entertainment are producing with director Kieron J Walsh.

The deal sees AME taking all rights to the show in North America, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, as well as secondary rights in Ireland. RLJ Entertainment’s global division, Acorn Media International, will distribute the series in English-speaking territories.

Finding Joy will debut on RLJ’s SVoD service Acorn TV in North America after the RTÉ premiere in the second half of this year. The streamer previously aired RTÉ’s dramas Striking Out and Acceptable Risk.

Acorn has been ramping up its programming slate recently, acquiring a number of series from FremantleMedia International and reviving former Sky comedy-drama Agatha Raisin at the beginning of the year.

It has also teamed up with Australian outfit Jungle Entertainment to coproduce family comedy Sando and has commissioned London Kills from Suspects scribe Paul Marquess, its first straight-to-series UK drama.
