Acorn, ABC venture into Jungle comedy

Agatha Raisin aired on Sky1 in the UK

US SVoD service Acorn TV has teamed up with Australian prodco Jungle Entertainment, ABC and Screen Australia to coproduce family comedy Sando.

The six-part series stars Sacha Horler (The Kettering Incident, Home & Away) as CEO of a discount furniture store trying to reconnect with her estranged family in a bid to win back her company. The show will premiere on the service later this year.

Acorn Media Enterprises (AME), the UK-based development division of RLJ Entertainment-backed Acorn, is the North American coproducer, working with Sydney-based Jungle, local broadcaster ABC and funding body Screen Australia in association with regional outfit Create NSW.

AME has secured all rights to the show in North America, the UK and Ireland and secondary rights in New Zealand and Australia. Acorn Media International, RLJ Entertainment’s global division, will distribute the series in English-speaking territories.

Acorn TV recently ordered a revival of UK-based satcaster Sky’s comedy Agatha Raisin as its first original series. The SVoD is funding new episodes of the show, based on novels by MC Beaton, which stars Ashley Jensen as a PR guru turned detective.

Bea Tammer, programming manager at AME, said the firm was excited to add Sando to its and Acorn TV’s “rapidly growing coproduction and original slate.”
