ABC takes Goldbergs spin-off to series

The Goldbergs is in its fifth season

US network ABC has ordered a spin-off from The Goldbergs, its family sitcom currently in its fifth season.

The as-yet-untitled Sony Pictures Television show, which was piloted last year, hails from The Goldbergs creator Adam F Goldberg and producer Marc Firek.

The show, which was not picked up to series last year, will air at the end of this year and is expected to run to 13 episodes.

Both Goldberg and Firek will exec produce the single-camera comedy, along with Doug Robinson of Happy Madison and Seth Gordon of Exhibit A.

The pilot is in the 1990s and follows two high school teachers who become unlikely father figures to the kids at their Philadelphia school.

The Goldbergs premiered on ABC in 2013 and follows the parents of a family based on that of the show’s creator. ABC is also in the middle of preparing a spin-off from its family comedy Black-ish.
