ABC extends Good Doctor appointment

ABC in the US has ordered a full season of its freshman medical drama The Good Doctor, which is based on the Korean drama of the same name.

The network has commissioned additional episodes of the series, produced by Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and ABC Studios. It made its debut in the US on September 25.

The US version was developed by David Shore (House) and follows a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome who leaves his quiet country life behind to join a prestigious hospital’s surgical unit.

Shore is the writer and executive producer of the show, while Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim and Sebastian Lee are also executive producers.

Among the international broadcasters to which SPT has sold the show are Russian pay TV and SVoD firm Amedia TV, Sky Living in the UK, TF1 in France and CTV in Canada.
