ABC adapts Turkish gun drama

US broadcaster ABC has added five pilots to its drama slate, including a show about the murky world of the international gun trade based on a Turkish drama.

Runner, from 20th Century Television and written by Michael Cooney, is based on Turkish show Son (aka The End) and follows a woman who finds herself dragged into the world of illegal weapon sales between groups in the US and Mexico.

The show was originally stabled at Fox and becomes the second pilot to come from a Turkish format after Game of Silence was ordered by NBC.

ABC has also ordered Warner Bros TV and Le Train Train’s family comedy Mix, which explores multicultural families, along with biblical drama Of Kings and Prophets and true crime procedural LA Crime, from ABC Studios.

The prodco is also behind terrorist drama Quantico, which follows a group of recruits attempting to join the FBI. It is being produced with the Mark Gordon Company, 51% of which was acquired recently by Canadian producer and distributor Entertainment One.
