Abacus gets rights to CBC’s Sort Of

UK distributor Abacus Media Rights has secured the international sales rights to Canadian pubcaster the CBC’s forthcoming comedy series Sort Of.

Produced by Sienna Films, Sort Of entered production last month in Toronto. The coming-of-age story, created by Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo, follows the journey of a gender-fluid millennial, played by Baig, who straddles various identities.

Filippo directs the series with Renuka Jeyapalan, and also exec produces with Baig and Sienna Films founders Jennifer Kawaja and Julia Sereny.

Baig and Filippo wrote the series with Jenn Engels, Ian Iqbal Rashid and Nelu Handa. Starring alongside Baig are Gray Powell (Hudson & Rex), Amanda Cordner (Baroness Von Sketch Show) and Ellora Patnaik (Schitt’s Creek).
