1+1 preps int’l news channel

Ukrainian broadcaster 1+1 is launching an English-language international news channel.

Ukraine Today will begin broadcasting in full from August 24. The channel will be free and available via satellite this year in Europe and from next year in the US.

Alexander Tkachenko, CEO of Media 1 +1, said the current political situation in Ukraine made the channel necessary.

He said: “For us as one of the leading Ukrainian media companies, it is important to provide the international community with access to the real facts and events in Ukraine, Russia and the CIS.

“Unfortunately, in recent years we have witnessed a large-scale information war by Russian state media. We believe that we can respond to it with objective information based on the principles of the civilised world – with all points of view and without lies and distortions.”
