CONTENT STRATEGIES: Uncovering programming opportunities worldwide

1+1 adds up Israeli drama formats

Ukrainian producer and broadcaster 1+1 is producing two new scripted series that mark a departure from its usual long-running commissions.

Shall We Kiss and Wedding Daze, both formats acquired from Israel’s Armoza Formats, will become 8×45′ series, unlike 1+1’s usual 30-plus episode orders.

Shall We Kiss, currently in production, is about a couple who start dating but must overcome a series of hurdles before sharing their first kiss. Wedding Daze, which is in pre-production, follows a couple about to be married who are confronted by the bride’s ex-boyfriend.

Both are due to air in spring 2012.

Natasha Stribuk, head of fiction production at 1+1 Production, 1+1’s production arm, told C21: “Shall We Kiss is a very interesting story. The original script is just brilliant. I couldn’t stop reading it.”

1+1 is also producing its own version of cooking reality show Hell’s Kitchen, which will air season two on 1+1 in January. It is also making the Russian version of the show, made famous by British chef Gordon Ramsay, which will air on Ren TV in January.

Shall We Kiss is also being adapted locally by HBO in Central Europe, having originated on Israeli commercial broadcaster Channel 10.
