Zee and Zeal sign second lottery format deal

Indian network Zee TV has picked up a new lottery gameshow format from Zeal Television, the second such deal the channel has signed with the UK-based format specialist.

Entitled Kaarvan Kismat Ka, the show is based on the gameshow format The Treasure Trail devised by Zeal's first-look partner Chatterbox.

In the show, six contestants compete for the equivalent of £20k. A twist on regular multiple choice formats, Kaarvan Kismat Ka has all the answers to the question correct bar one – the contestant must avoid choosing the incorrect one.

The 52-part show is currently in production at local outfit Miditech and is supporting the launch of the new Sikkim State Thunderball lottery game. It airs Mondays at 20:30 for 52 weeks.

The deal solidifies Zeal's and Chatterbox's bridgehead into India: as well as recently devising the Friday evening gameshow Khelo Numero Khelo for Zee TV earlier this year, it has also sold a Hindi version of The Pepsi Chart music show to Sony-owned SET India.

Previous Indian deals include selling the Popstars format to Star TV, a deal signed through Zeal's former parent Sportsworld. Zeal has since undertaken an MBO from now defunct Sportsworld, inheriting all its parent's format rights.
