ZED reveals PBS deal for Korea

French producer and distributor ZED has struck a series of deals in the US, including a coproduction agreement with pubcaster PBS.

ZED is coproducing factual series Korea, the Never-Ending War (2×52’) with PBS, with the show being directed by John Maggio and boasting a US$1.6m budget.

The series tells the story of the Korean War and examines how the unresolved conflict forms the backdrop for the current nuclear risk North Korea poses to the world.

Worldwide distribution is being handled by ZED, which has pre-sold the series to more than 10 broadcasters including Arte France and BBC4 in the UK.

Meanwhile, ZED is coproducing Ancient Earth with US SVoD service CuriosityStream. The 1×90′ documentary, which examines the mass-extinction events on Earth during the past 250 million years, is also set to air on France 5 later this year.

Finally, National Geographic Channel in the US has acquired rights from ZED for an array of specials, including The American Dreams of Bobby Kennedy, produced by Cinétévé and directed by Patrick Jeudy.

The 1×52′ show is set to air on France 3 in primetime this year to mark the 50th anniversary of the
assassination of US politician Robert Kennedy.
