ZDF shifts Emmelius to Spielfilm

German pubcaster ZDF has promoted the general manager of its ZDFneo channel to take the editorial lead at its feature film network, Spielfilm.

Simone Emmelius, who has been responsible for ZDFneo since 2012, replaces Susanne Müller, who retired at the end of last year.

As feature editor of Spielfilm, Emmelius will be responsible for the editorial selection and conception of feature films and licensing for ZDF and 3sat. She will also oversee the co-creation of the ZDFneo and Arte portfolios in Germany.

Emmelius previously worked as an editor on the ZDF editorial board of society and education policy. She has been with the pubcaster since 1987, when she became a consultant in the staff department for the director.

During her time as head of the editorial department for multimedia, she was responsible for the development of ZDF’s digital TV activities. Prior to being general manager of ZDFneo, Emmelius oversaw digital channels ZDFinfokanal and ZDFdokukanal.

The appointment was announced by Thomas Bellut, director at ZDF.
