Facebook Live will allow The X Factor applicants to audition remotely

Budding performers hoping to get a place on the ITV show will be able to attend an audition by singing as they would to judges through their portable devices.

The app will also allow acts to watch audience reactions to their performances as they sing into their mobile phones or tablets. The X Factor is coproduced by Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and FremantleMedia UK.

Kirsty Hunter, acting MD of FremantleMedia UK’s digital arm Shotglass Media, said: “Using Facebook Live will allow our team to see applicants who can’t make it to the auditions in person.

“It gives potential contestants a new way to be involved with the show using the latest technology from one of the most popular social media platforms. We are very excited to be working with Facebook to integrate live video in auditions and throughout the series.”

Since launching in 2015, Facebook Live is increasingly being used by broadcasters to connect with their audiences and add a new dimension to their coverage. UK broadcaster ITV will hope such an innovation can improve the show’s ratings, which have been in steady decline over the past few years.

The stream will show the Spanish women’s first division fixture between Atletico Madrid and Athletic this Saturday.

UK-based Grabyo is backed by footballers Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Tony Parker.
