Wuaki adds Nordic Noir from Arrow

Spanish online video service Wuaki.tv has agreed a content partnership with international film and television distributor Arrow Films.

The deal will see a host of movies and TV series added to Wuaki.tv including Danish crime drama The Killing and iconic Japanese horror film Battle Royale.

The move continues Wuaki’s aim of combining mainstream Hollywood blockbusters and US series with the best in international television and cult films from all over the globe. It follows the creation of a dedicated ‘British Movies’ section on the site last year.

UK-based distributor Arrow Films will provide content from producers in Italy, Norway and Israel to the service for the first time, including Nordic Noir titles such as The Bridge and Wallander and Italian series Gamorrah.

Films in the deal include The Stag, Arthur and Mike and A Touch of Sin. Other series on the slate include Braquo, Prisoners of War and The Code.

Simon Homent, European content director at Wuaki.tv, said: “Our users aren’t purely interested in the latest Hollywood blockbusters, we see a desire for a more diverse range of genres and movie styles from all over the globe.”

Wuaki was acquired by Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten in 2012 and rolled out into the UK last year. It will launch into France, Germany and Italy before the end of 2014.
