Wire in the Blood gets US remake

ABC has ordered a US adaptation of British psychological crime drama Wire in the Blood, to be made by ABC Studios with Mandeville Films, Endemol Studios and the original UK producer.

Author A M Homes (The L Word) is attached to write and executive produce the US remake of the show, which follows a tough female detective inspector and a clinical psychologist who pair up to solve murders.

The original series ran for six seasons on ITV between 2002 and 2008 and was based on the characters created by Scottish crime writer Val McDermid. The show aired around the world, including in the US on BBC America.

David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Laurie Zaks of LA-based Mandeville will executive produce alongside Sandra Jobling of UK prodco Coastal Productions – producers of the original show.

A US remake was first mooted back in 2009, when CBS and DreamWorks Television were said to be developing scripts for the crime drama.

Endemol Worldwide Distribution will control all international sales rights to the US adaptation.

Other scripted series coproduced by Endemol Studios since it launched in 2011 have included Hell on Wheels, Low Winter Sun and Kingdom.
