Wind in the Willows set for reboot

Children’s production outfit Hoho Entertainment has linked up with Martin Gates Productions (MGP) and Cloth Cat Animation on an animated series based on Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows.

Wind in the Willows: Mole of Mole End (52×11’) will follow the adventures of the characters from the children’s novels, including Mole, Rat and Toad.

MGP previously produced a 30-minute special in 1994 titled Mole’s Christmas, which became the UK’s most exported TV show between 1993 and 2003, finding buyers in 213 countries, according to the British Television Distributors’ Association.

Martin Gates, MGP’s founder, said: “Twenty years on, we feel the time is right to breathe new life into the stories for a whole new generation of children, rediscovering beloved old characters and introducing some new female ones, including adventurous Squirrel, resourceful Rabbit and the scheming Chief Weasel.”

The show has been developed by MGP with Hoho Entertainment’s Oliver Ellis, who previously worked on rebooted children’s brands such as The Basil Brush Show and Postman Pat.

The firms are currently in development on the bible and scripts and plan to have a trailer prepared by the first quarter of 2015. No broadcaster is yet attached.
