WGN calls time on Manhattan project

Manhattan focused on the race to build the first atomic bomb

Manhattan focused on the race to build the first atomic bomb

Tribune Broadcasting-owned WGN America has pulled the plug its original drama Manhattan after two seasons.

WGN America president and general manager Matt Cherniss said not moving forward with a third season was a “very difficult decision” but added that the network was “deeply disappointed” that the show could not find a larger audience.

Manhattan, written and created by Sam Shaw (Masters of Sex), explored the race to develop and build the world’s first atomic bomb.

The drama, which sold to US video streamer Hulu in 2014, was produced by Skydance Television, Tribune Studios and Lionsgate Television.

Manhattan was WGN’s second original commission following the order for witch-based drama Salem in June 2013.
