WGN adds Anna Paquin thriller

Tribune Broadcasting-owned cable network WGN America has acquired the US rights to Canadian mystery thriller Bellevue.

The 8×60′ series, which stars Anna Paquin (True Blood), is produced by Muse Entertainment and Back Alley Film Productions.

It will premiere in early 2018 on WGN America, having made its debut in Canada on CBC earlier this year.

The drama follows a detective (Paquin) as she investigates the disappearance of a high-school hockey star wrestling with his gender identity in a small town.

Paquin is an executive producer on the show alongside creator/showrunner Jane Maggs and producer/director Adrienne Mitchell.

The acquisition comes after WGN America decided to step away from producing its own high-end original drama, following the cancellations of Underground, Salem, Manhattan and Outsiders.
