WeTV plots telenovela reality show

US cablenet WeTV is developing an unscripted series following a group of Latino actors involved in the telenovela industry.

The Real Women of Telenovelas, to be produced by Matador, will focus on the lives of a mix of high profile and up-and-coming actors in the telenovela scene, as they compete for roles and dates.

The show will be shot in Miami, which WeTV refers to as Telenovela Tinseltown because of the large number of Spanish-language soap operas that are filmed nearby.

“The world of telenovelas has everything we look for in a WeTV show: compelling characters, conflict, consequence and comic relief,” said the channel’s president Marc Juris.

Premier dates and series length have not yet been revealed.
