WE tv turned off by Sex Box

US cablenet WE tv has axed its local version of UK reality format Sex Box after five episodes of a planned nine-part run.

Sex Box C4

C4’s original version of Sex Box

The show, which originally aired on Channel 4 in the UK, sees couples enter a sealed box in the middle of a television studio to have sex, before emerging afterwards to talk about the experience.

Relativity Television produced a pilot for the AMC Networks-owned channel earlier this year and worked on the full run but WE tv said the show “did not connect with large number of viewers.” However, the network said the format was being altered, which could see it return.

The US version featured couples whose relationships are on the rocks and who discuss their issues with a panel of experts before entering the box for sex. The UK show was produced by London-based indie ClearStory.
