Warner TV expands in Asia

Warner TV hosts superhero shows including Supergirl

US giant Turner has expanded the reach of its series-focused channel Warner TV by partnering with Asian pay TV broadcaster Astro once again.

The general entertainment channel will launch on Astro’s regional OTT platform Tribe in Indonesia and the Philippines.

It follows Turner and Astro partnering earlier this year to launch Warner TV in Malaysia on pay TV and streaming app Astro Go.

Warner TV is home to DC superhero shows such as DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, Gotham, Supergirl, The Flash and iZombie, alongside comedy series such as The Big Bang Theory and Angie Tribeca and dramas Blindspot and The Last Ship. Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon will launch on September 26.

It will also air blockbuster movies from franchises such as The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Batman, with other titles including Inception, Pacific Rim and Interstellar.

Vishal Dembla, Turner’s general manager for South-east Asia, said viewers will receive some of the shows “immediately after” they premiere in the US.

Tribe already features Turner’s Oh!K Channel, which specialises in Korean content. A monthly subscription to Tribe costs PHP69 (US$1.35) in the Philippines and RP15,000 (US$1.13) in Indonesia.

“Warner TV strengthens our proposition to be the destination for up-to-date and fresh content in the OTT space, while also bringing us closer to competitor offerings that have historically focused on Hollywood shows,” said Iskandar Samad, CEO of Tribe.

Last week Turner announced a partnership with pay TV operator Canal+ to launch Warner TV in France in mid-November.
