Warner Bros warms up chef format

Chef in Your Ear airs on Food Network Canada and Radio-Canada

Chef in Your Ear airs on Food Network Canada and Radio-Canada

German broadcaster ZDF and Vier in Belgium are set to produce local versions of Warner Bros format Chef in Your Ear.

Warner Bros International Television Production (WBITVP) holds worldwide TV rights to the show, excluding Asia, which originally aired on Food Network in Canada.

ZDF will premiere a 15-part German version this month, produced by WBITVP Germany.

In Belgium, Vier has commissioned a 16-episode season and, for the first time, the format will be stripped daily. WBITVP-owned BlazHoffski Belgium is producing the show.

BlazHoffski Holland, also owned by WBITVP, has already produced 14 episodes of a celebrity version for local broadcaster Avro-Tros/NPO 3 this summer.

The cooking reality format sees two top chefs compete to create a restaurant-quality dish to be judged by a food professional. However, neither chef is allowed into the kitchen and instead they must prepare, cook and plate their dishes by remote control, using monitors and a microphone to direct kitchen novices wearing an earpiece.

Created by The Format People and originally produced by HLP Canada, the series launched on Canada’s Food Network in August 2015.

In Asia, Chef In Your Ear is distributed by Bomanbridge. The Canadian version has been sold to Pan Asian NBCU network Diva and the format has been adapted for two seasons in Korea for CJ E&M, with an option for Mongolia.
