Warner Bros hires SF Studios TV boss

Warner Bros International Television Production (WBITVP) has appointed the head of television at Bonnier-owned Scandinavian film and TV firm SF Studios to oversee its drama output in Sweden.

Johan Hedman

Johan Hedman becomes head of drama at WBITVP Sweden and will report to MD Johan Idering, with a remit that includes oversight of all development and production at the company.

Ronald Goes, exec VP and head of WBITVP, said Hedman’s appointment “reflects our ongoing commitment to local scripted TV content and I look forward to the ideas and energy he will bring to this part of our Swedish operation.”

WBITVP Sweden is one of Warner Bros’ network of 16 local production operations, responsible for both original programming and local versions of formats owned and controlled by the company.

Idering said Hedman would be “an important player in our overall business strategy” as the company looks to expand its “creative drama department.”

Recent WBITVP dramas in Sweden include thriller Farang for TV4 and long-running crime series Maria Wern, which is based on novels by author Anna Jansson.

WBITVP Sweden is also producing Christmas Calendar (Julkalendern) for pubcaster SVT, with the show based on the Speglarnas Hemlighet trilogy of novels by Erika Vallin.

Late last year WBITVP appointed the former MD of Scandi production outfit Strix to head up its operation in Denmark. More recently the company moved its UK production outfits, including Wall to Wall and Renegade, under the WBITVP banner. The companies were previously part of Warner Bros Television Production UK.
